Post-traumatic stress to be recognized by Manitoba Workers Compensation Board June 16 2015
On June 8, 2015, Manitoba made the announcement that it will be amending the Workers Compensation Act to include PTSD as a recognized work-related occupational disease. No date has yet been set on when the amendments will come into force.
Under this legislation, the Workers Compensation Board would extend coverage and benefits to all workers who are eligible under the WCB who are diagnosed with PTSD by a medical professional.
These changes in the WCB were inspired by the work of Manitoba nurses, firefighters, first responders and the Government and General Employees Union (MGEU), with the long term goal being to reduce the stigma attached to mental illness.

Le 8 juin dernier, le gouvernement du Manitoba annonçait son intention de modifier la Loi sur les accidents du travail afin que le SSPT soit reconnu comme une maladie professionnelle liée au travail. Aucune date n'a encore été arrêtée quant à l’entrée en vigueur de ces amendements.
En vertu de cette législation, la Commission des accidents du travail étendrait la couverture et les avantages à tous les travailleurs qui sont admissibles en vertu de la CAT, qui ont un diagnostic de SSPT par un professionnel de la santé.
Ces amendements à la CAT ont été inspirés par le travail des infirmiers et des infirmières, des pompiers, des premiers répondants, du gouvernement et du syndicat des employés généraux, avec l'objectif à long terme d’atténuer la stigmatisation associée à la maladie mentale.
