Bill 53 Receives Royal Assent May 15 2018
On May 8, 2018 the Ontario government passed Bill 53, Government Contract Wages Act, 2018. The Act ensures that people working in construction, building cleaning, or security jobs under government contracts will be paid fair wages. It does so by allowing the province to establish minimum rates of pay for workers under contracts with the government in those sectors.
Employers are now required to record the specified information about wages to which the Act applies, including information about subcontracting, and to provide such to the Director of Government Contract Wages and to subcontractors. The Act also provides a number of ways for employees to recover their wages and includes an anti-reprisal mechanism.

Le projet de loi 53 reçoit la sanction royale
Le 8 mai 2018, le gouvernement de l'Ontario a adopté le projet de loi 53, Loi de 2018 sur les salaires pour les marchés publics, qui garantit que les personnes travaillant dans la construction, le nettoyage de bâtiments ou les services de sécurité toucheront le salaire équitable en vigueur dans ces secteurs. Il le fait en permettant à la province d'établir des taux de salaire minimums pour les travailleuses et les travailleurs occupant des postes en vertu de contrats conclus avec le gouvernement.
Les employeurs sont maintenant tenus de consigner les renseignements précisés au sujet des salaires auxquels s'applique la Loi, notamment des renseignements relatifs à la sous-traitance, et de fournir les renseignements prescrits au directeur des salaires pour les marchés publics ainsi qu’aux sous-traitants. La Loi prévoit également différentes mesures permettant aux employés de recouvrer leurs salaires ainsi qu'un dispositif de protection contre les représailles.
