British Columbia – NEW Age Restrictions for Workers Aged 16 and 18 December 14 2022
The Government of British Columbia announced that on January 1, 2023 the minimum age requirement to work in certain types of work that can be hazardous for young workers.
A minimum age of 16 to undertake the following activities:
- construction;
- silviculture;
- forest firefighting; and
- working from heights that require fall protection.
A minimum age of 18 to undertake the following activities:
- tree falling and logging;
- using a chainsaw;
- work in a production process at a pulp, paper, saw, shake or shingle mill;
- work in a production process at a foundry, metal processing or metal fabrication operation, refinery or smelter;
- powerline construction or maintenance where an electrical hazard exists;
- oil or gas field servicing and drilling;
- work with dangerous equipment in fish, meat or poultry processing facilities;
- silica process/exposure to silica dust;
- work in which a worker is or may be exposed to potentially harmful levels of asbestos;
- exposure to harmful levels of radiation;
- working in a confined space or underground workings; and
- work requiring a respirator.

Colombie-Britannique – NOUVELLES restrictions d’âge pour les travailleurs de 16 à 18 ans
Le gouvernement de la Colombie-Britannique a annoncé qu’à compter du 1er janvier 2023, l’âge minimal pour certains types de travail pouvant être dangereux pour les jeunes changera.
L’âge minimal pour les activités suivantes sera de 16 ans :
- Construction
- Sylviculture
- Lutte contre les incendies de forêt
- Travail en hauteur nécessitant une protection contre les chutes
L’âge minimal pour les activités suivantes sera de 18 ans :
- Abattage d’arbres et exploitation forestière
- Utilisation d’une scie à chaîne
- Travail de production dans une usine de pâtes et papiers, une scierie, une usine de bardeaux de fente ou de bardeaux
- Travail de production dans une fonderie, une usine de traitement ou de transformation de métaux ou une affinerie
- Construction ou réparation de lignes électriques là où il y a un risque électrique
- Forage et entretien pétroliers, et travail sur champ de gaz
- Travail avec équipements dangereux dans des installations de transformation de poisson, de viande ou de volaille
- Transformation de silice/exposition à la poussière de silice
- Travail dans lequel le travailleur est ou peut être exposé à un niveau potentiellement dangereux d’amiante
- Exposition à un niveau élevé de rayonnement
- Travail dans un espace clos ou sous-terrain
- Travail exigeant le port d’un appareil de protection respiratoire
